Andy’s Life

I grew up in a godly home with loving parents. I rejected their belief system to indulge my own hungers which got me stuck in some sinful behaviors. A fruitless ‘conversion’ driven by worldly sorrow only affirmed my belief I had sinned beyond the potential for salvation. My heart was full of all manner of ugliness, and the mess I caused was eventually disrupted at age 44 by God’s perfect remedy of confession, repentance, and regeneration. God is the only one who can use our destructive sinfulness to bring about His good purposes. Today, I am drawn to people in messy places. God’s mercy altered my life’s trajectory, and it’s a privilege to walk alongside others as they find genuine change and hope in Christ.

Andy and his three adult children

Sally and I have been married since 1991 and have 3 adult children with one granddaughter. We each brought personal sin into our marriage and God faithfully used it to fully deconstruct our selfish ambitions and rebuild our union on the right foundation. We know he will continue this refinement and renewal. It is a great joy to watch other couples experience a new beginning from the ashes of marriage troubles.

I have been certified as a biblical counselor by the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors since January 2022. I am in the process of receiving Addictions Specialization endorsement from the same organization and plan to pursue being a Commissioned Addictions Biblical Counselor through The Addiction Connection.  What’s been most helpful is God’s ongoing transformation of my own heart and I want to keep growing in my love for God and the special people He has put in my path.

Quick Facts about Andy

  • I am not a fan of summer weather.

  • I remain preferential to Kansas State in college athletics.

  • I enjoy hunting and skiing, or rather the idea of them, as actual participation has waned.  Quiet solitude in a stiff November breeze is a good time.

  • Sunday evening popcorn and dinner with the family are good days.

  • We enjoy coffee moments and short trips away.

  • We are grateful for friendships forged in adversity.

  • We want to see people discover and grow in their practice of loving people in the ways God has gifted them.

“It’s not about figuring out what I believe, but finding what’s true. And that’s not something I could ever do through my own effort.”
